Animal Organizations
California Turtle and Tortoise Club. General information about turtles and tortoises.
FOCAS, Friends of County Animal Shelters. FOCAS exists primarily to encourage a strong adoption program for animals impounded in the three shelters operated by the County of San Diego Department of Animal Services.
Hedgehog Central. All things related to Hedgehogs.
Project Wildlife. Project Wildlife
cares for injured, orphaned, and
sick native wildlife of San Diego
County, and releases rehabilitated
animals back into their natural habitats.
Rat Lover’s Association of Southern California. If you have or love rats, this non-profit organization has a large set of resources to pull from.
Trainrite. Train Rite is dedicated to enhancing the lives of disabled individuals by
adopting shelter and rescue dogs, and training them using positive training
techniques to perform everyday tasks for their disabled partner.
Animal Shelters
Baja Animal Sanctuary. The sanctuary, the only no-kill shelter in northern Mexico, provides a safe haven for dogs and cats in need.
Escondido Humane Society.Their mission is to promote responsible pet ownership by teaching compassion, respect, and caring treatment for all living creatures.
Helen Woodward Animal Center. People helping animals and animal helping people. Located in Rancho Santa Fe.
North County Humane Society and SPCA. Located in Oceanside, the NCHS helps protect animals from abuse, advocates for their welfare, and educates the public in compassionate stewardship.
Rancho Coastal Humane Society.
One of RCHS’ main goals is the adoption of animals to permanent, loving homes.
San Diego Humane Society.
The San Diego Humane Society and SPCA’s mission is to promote the humane treatment of animals, prevent cruelty to animals and provide education to enhance the human-animal bond.
Animal Artists

Boarding Facilities
Club Pet. Club Pet boarding is located at the Helen Woodward Animal Center.
At Club Pet, all animal guests are VIPs (Very Important Pets).
Emergencies
California Veterinary Specialists. Located in Carlsbad, they offer 24 hour emergency and specialty care. They can be reached at (760) 431-2273.
Veterinary Specialty Hospital. Located in Sorrento Valley, they offer 24 hour emergency and specialty care. They can be reached at (858) 875-7500.
Fun
Dog Beach in Del Mar. Go off-leash with your dog in Del Mar on the beach, north of 29th street from September 15th - June 15th. During this time, a great amount of canine frolicking ensues.
Leash Free in San Diego. A list from the City of San Diego of parks with leash-free locations. #12 on the list is Torrey Highlands Park, just a few miles away from our hospital.
Elfin Forest Recreational Reserve. Located in rural San Marcos, this 750 acre space is great for dogs, but the leash / off-leash rules vary depending on the day of the week and trail location. Best if it’s not too hot, but bring water just in case. Beware of bikers, but enjoy the scenery.
Arroyo Burro Beach. This is a bit out of the way, but one of our staff happened onto this nice Santa Barbara beach that’s laid-back and open to dogs. The west end is for leashed dogs, the east side is for unleashed dogs, and it’s no surprise where most dogs end up.
Rescues
Operation K9 Rescue. Operation K9 Rescue is a non-profit rescue organization whose objective is to rescue, rehabilitate and find forever homes for the abused, neglected and
abandoned American Bulldogs, Rare Mastiffs and Bull breeds.
Pit Bull Rescue of San Diego. Pit Bull Rescue San Diego is made up of people who work tirelessly to improve and save the lives of Bully Breeds in San Diego, and occasionally beyond!
Retrievers and Friends of Southern California. Retrievers and Friends is an all-volunteer organization that adopts to families residing in Riverside, San Diego, Orange and southern San Bernardino counties.

South Bark Dog Wash . South Bark Dog Wash offers self-serve wash tubs, organic shampoo and conditioners, drying stations, pet food, toys, and retail items.
Trainers
